The 2020 pandemic demonstrated the value of local community, wellbeing and connection. People saw the places they had taken for granted in a new light. The years that followed prompted a shift in the design and use of public space.

The key aim of this report was to investigate how local government authorities in New Zealand develop and deliver capital works programs and in particular what impacts the honed asset management practices influences these capital works. The report identifies key themes that public work engineers and local government as a whole can incorporate into capital works planning and delivery.
